I have been of late receiving countless emails with the fundamental question can dust make my PS5 laggy?, how often do I have to clean my PS5?
Regularly cleaning your PS5 can drastically improve the longevity of your system.
Well if you are reading this that means you need to clean it, so we will show you how to safely and efficiently clean your PS5.
If you are nervous about opening up your PS5, don’t be. There are ways you can do the necessary maintenance on your system without having to completely open it.
Let’s take a look at what some of the issues you may face with a dirty PS5:
- Your fan becomes much louder than usual, no matter the game.
- You experience graphical issues such as artifacts.
- Your console turns off due to overheating.
Cleaning your PS5 console is simple and doesn’t require expensive equipment.
The best products to use to clean your PS5 are as follows:
- microfiber cloth
- Isopropyl alcohol (Rubbing Alcohol)
- Q-tips
- A low-powered vacuum*
- Compressed air
*DO NOT USE: Household vacuum cleaners – They are too powerful and generate a lot of static electricity.
The only thing you will have to remove from your PS5 console to clean it is the covers. These covers are intentionally easy to remove for cleaning and even customization purposes. Follow the steps below and check out the video if need a visual reference:
1. Turn your PS5 off and remove all wires connected to the console.
2. Remove the base by gently sliding it off.
3. Place the PS5 on a flat surface.
4. Position the console so the PS logo faces up, and the power button is away from you.
5. Place your thumb on the PS logo and simultaneously pull up and to the right until the cover releases. You will hear a click when the cover is free.
Once you’ve removed the top cover, you will notice two holes in the body of your PS5. These are designed to catch dust. If there is a lot of dust in these reservoirs, use your low-powered vacuum, compressed air can, or cloth to remove it. You may also notice some dust in and around the fan.
To put the cover back on your console, lay it in place and slide the cover to the left. You don’t need to add any pressure or push down here. The cover should simply slide and click into place.
And that should be that for a good enough clean. We recommend cleaning the PS5 console at least once every 3 months to maintain the longevity of the console.
