{"id":3593,"date":"2024-01-24T14:34:36","date_gmt":"2024-01-24T12:34:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/everyonegaming.com\/?p=3593"},"modified":"2024-01-24T14:34:36","modified_gmt":"2024-01-24T12:34:36","slug":"superman-and-batman-will-be-in-the-public-domain-in-10-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/everyonegaming.com\/news\/entertainment\/superman-and-batman-will-be-in-the-public-domain-in-10-years\/","title":{"rendered":"Superman and Batman will be in the public domain in 10 years"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After Mickey Mouse from <strong>Steamboat Willie<\/strong> was released into the public domain, two very popular <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DC characters<\/a><\/strong> will also enter the public domain, Superman and Batman will also enter the public domain starting from 2034 and 2035 respectively, with Joker and Wonder Woman following them in 2036 and 2037.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>As per US Copyright Laws, properties cannot be held by a single commercial entity for more than 95 years and hence, Superman and Lois Lane will enter the public domain in 2034, followed by Batman in 2035, the Joker in 2036 and Wonder Woman in 2037.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/everyonegaming.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/supermansa-1030x582.jpg\" alt=\"Superman and Batman\" class=\"wp-image-3594\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, DC has been preparing for years for this inevitability &#8211; At a press event in 2023,<strong>\u00a0James Gunn<\/strong>\u00a0noted that the next Superman film will introduce characters from\u00a0<strong>The Authority<\/strong>, a comic book series launched in 1999, in part because Superman&#8217;s copyright is about to expire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So there is still plenty of time to release Comic-accurate films before we start seeing bizarre iterations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The upcoming DC film Superman: Legacy\u00a0will hit theaters in July 2025.
