Warner Bros. has officially announced the production of a Minecraft sequel to the blockbuster hit that came close to crossing the $1 billion mark at the global box office. The studio also revealed the release date — fans can look forward to its theatrical debut on July 23, 2027.
What we know about the Minecraft Sequel
Jared Hess is set to return as director for the continuation of the story introduced in A Minecraft Movie, which he co-wrote alongside Chris Galletta. Rumours suggest that the sequel will explore entirely new worlds and introduce fresh characters inspired by Mojang Studios’ beloved video game universe.
The official Minecraft Movie Twitter account surprised fans with an exciting announcement. In a short teaser post, the studio revealed that a sequel to the hit film is officially in the works — and it’s scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 23, 2027.

The production team includes Mary Parent and Cale Boyter, as well as Roy Lee, Eric McLeod, Kayleen Walters, Torfi Frans Olafsson and Jason Momoa. The cast, in addition to Jack Black and Jason Momoa, also includes Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Hansen, Rachel House, Matt Berry, Kate McKinnon, and Jemaine Clement.
