Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Review

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown – impressive world-building and narrative.

Reviewed on Xbox

While the wait for Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake continues, Ubisoft has been hard at work on a brand new game in the series. This time it’s “Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown,” which is a standalone game and as a unique new entry in the series, reinvigorating the franchise once again.

The team at Ubisoft Montpellier seemed to have put an unprecedented amount of time into this game as it is actually such a joy to play and if you are a fan of the original side-scrolling editions, this one is for you.

Loyalty, betrayal, loss, and triumph.

Players take on the role of Sargon, a young and gifted warrior who is part of a group called The Immortals, some of Persia’s most elite warriors. Celebrations ensue and all seems well after Sargon wins the queen’s favour when he and his warriors end a brutal war but the celebrations don’t last long, and you be prepared for a fantastic plot twist.

Sargon is already a fierce fighter and in the earlier parts of the game, you are provided with an abundance of weaponry and armour. The combat is fluid and the emphasis on speed, reaction time makes the fighting very rewarding.

Very rarely do enemies stand around and wait for you to attack them, they make a real effort to make each encounter feel realistic. Bosses have their own attack patterns and phases ,and you will need to time your attacks.

I would suggest using the default difficulty as you will get to experience Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown at it’s best, as that setting is enough to experience some epic boss fights, each one presents its own exciting challenge, if you’re feeling brave, maybe move the dial up. Providing up to 20 hours of platform puzzles even in “normal” difficulty mode, featuring top-notch environmental design.

Don’t stress, though if you are a beginner, as some of the platforming areas are overwhelming. Ubisoft thought about that for you, in the settings menu, you will find an accessibility feature that lets you skip some of the more punishing platforming areas, so you can progress further.

Gamers can expect a smooth 4K 60FPS on the Xbox Series X, with additional performance switches for accessibility available right from the start, or at any time throughout the game.

The combination of thrilling combat with well-designed platforming makes this game practically impossible to put down. If you’re a fan of the series or just love stunning, exciting action-adventure games, you must try this one.
