Let me preface this next bit with – this game is in alpha, and online play seems a bit unstable at the moment. I expect it to improve, however.

There are a few downsides, and I would be remiss not to mention them. First, controller support is Janky. When I connect my controller, it becomes impossible to navigate anywhere. I have to hit the windows key and then try to select with the mouse. It may be more catered for on keyboard and mouse but smoother controller support would be preferred. The gameplay & controls are much smoother on mobile as this is a mobile-first game. However, the combos are a tad challenging to coordinate through and at the beginning of the first few matches it may feel like your character is stuck with only a few moves and no flexibility in potential combos to dish out. There is joy in sometimes figuring out combos for yourself, the unbridled fun on button mashing is part of what we loved in the arcades growing up.
