Crash Bandicoot 5 was reportedly in development as a Spyro crossover but was scrapped

Crash Bandicoot 5

It’s been 4 years since the last Crash Bandicoot – Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time developed by Toys for Bob and published by Activision, well the reason I mention this is that there was another game in development.

A comprehensive report by Did You Know Gaming (I highly recommend watching the full video) that Toys for Bob had been working on developing Crash Bandicoot 5, a game that was meant to be a crossover with Spyro the Dragon.

However, much to everyone’s surprise, the entire project was eventually scrapped.

The video disclosed that before its cancellation, Crash Bandicoot 5 was exploring two main distinct concepts. The initial concept involved Crash revisiting the renowned location, the Academy of Evil, from Crash Twinsanity. These plot elements from Twinsanity were set to be revisited, according to the reveal, with the Academy of Evil’s larger segments serving as a sort of hub world.

Surprisingly, those initial ideas underwent significant expansion and evolved into the exciting possibility of a collaboration with Spyro the Dragon. In this new vision, Uka Uka would take on the role of the antagonist, and the worlds of Crash and Spyro would intersect through an interdimensional portal.

Both iconic video game characters would team up to confront Uka Uka – Uka Uka is a voodoo mask spirit, Aku Aku‘s twin brother, and the overarching antagonist of the Crash Bandicoot series. Debuting in Crash Bandicoot: Warped, he is ultimately the driving force behind Neo Cortex’s evil plans. Players would have had the opportunity to control either Crash or Spyro during gameplay.

It’s not shocking to learn that Activision decided to cancel Crash Bandicoot 5. This decision was influenced by the fact that Crash Bandicoot 4 fell short of the company’s high sales projections and the shift away from high-budget single-player games.
