Nintendo graciously provided an exclusive virtual tour of the new Nintendo Museum in Kyoto, Japan. This “Nintendo Museum Direct,” was hosted by Shigeru Miyamoto and mentions the Nintendo Museum will start accepting visitors beginning October 2nd, 2024.

An interesting thing to note is that the museum stands on the very spot where the company once produced Hanafuda and other playing cards before venturing into video games and turning a former industrial car park into a stunning plaza adorned with a vintage Mario theme.

What to expect at the Nintendo Museum

You’ll catch a glimpse of several displays in the museum, featuring a vast circular wall filled with well-maintained and extensive collections of classic retro Nintendo games and products. Other sections of the Museum will include a glimpse into the company’s journey in creating products to encourage player activity, visitors can engage with an interactive floor, using their phones and feet to participate in a larger-than-life card game experience.

The museum operates on a unique Coin system. Upon entry, visitors receive a card with 10 pre-loaded coins, which they can use for specific activities inside the museum. The virtual tour showcased three activities: indoor pitching machines set within recreations of traditional Japanese homes, a “laser clay” shooting gallery using the classic NES Zapper and SNES Super Scope, and a room where visitors can play NES, N64, and Wii games using oversized controllers.
